Hosts: Hector Silva

Guest: Kathryn Lorenzen

Topic: "Tools For A Difficult Interview Situation"

Description: Sometimes it's deliberate and sometimes accidental, but the effect is the same. You've found yourself in front of an inhospitable interviewer, and it's throwing you off your game. It's important, because if you don't make the connection, you won't get a shot at being a finalist, even if you're perfectly qualified. What to do? There are ways to prepare for this scenario that have nothing to do with scripting and memorizing your perfect answers to prototypical interview questions. Kathryn Lorenzen, Recruiter and Career Coach at LandaJob Advertising & Marketing Talent, will take us on a tour of breaking through psychological barriers to help us make connections with the most difficult interviewer personalities, including...the Cold Fish, the Jaded Skeptic, the Nosy Detective, the Self-Absorbed Stage Hog, the Inappropriate Legal Nightmare, the Rose-Colored Glasses Sweetie Pie, and the Alien From Another Planet. Kathryn will include some live drills, with the goal that everyone leaves with a new insight or tool.

ABOUT THE GUEST:

Kathryn Lorenzen has recruited, screened, and placed hundreds of people in jobs, coached hundreds more in their job searches, and made dozens of presentations on career development. She's spent the last fourteen years at LandaJob Advertising & Marketing Talent, and she also worked for almost twenty years in advertising agency account management, at Bernstein-Rein, Valentine Radford, and several other creative agencies in the Southeast and Midwest. Kathryn earned her coaching credential from the National Career Development Association, and she served as president of the Kansas City chapter of the Association of Career Professionals International. Her newest hobby is serving as a creativity coach to fiction writers, through the Creativity Coaching Association. In this episode of New Landings Job Chat hosts Hector Silva and Don Appel are joined by Bethany Spilde to discuss "Building A Network and Networkikng".

Bright. Creative. Passionate. Bethany Spilde, founder of Social Buzz Media, is Kansas City's leading expert on social media, relationship marketing and brand strategy. The driving force behind many successful businesses' strategic social media plans, Bethany leads by example, delving into the culture of each client to help them form and deepen relationships through specifically targeted social media campaigns.

As a trainer, Bethany works with businesses as diverse as small chiropractic offices to multi-million dollar companies. Though the consulting expertise she offers is different for each client, she consistently brings her passion for marketing and love of teaching to each endeavor. Praised as an engaging, practical and inspiring teacher, Bethany has an uncanny ability to take the sometimes daunting subject of social media and translate it to no-nonsense, usable knowledge that positively impacts each client's bottom line.

A sought-after speaker, Bethany's interactive and positive style inspires participants to not only seek new ideas but to identify quantifiable business strategies. Her ability to at once inform, entertain and inspire makes Bethany a pioneer in the sometimes amorphous realm of social media marketing. A former professional athlete, Bethany applies many of the same characteristics to business that made her a champion: drive, diligence, forward-thinking and energetic. Always seeing the possible, rather than the obstacle, Bethany is able to turn vision into reality.
